Delhi High Court ordered Bar Council of India to consider conducting of CLAT exam in local languages as a representation plea
New Delhi, June 21, 2020: The Delhi High Court has ordered the Bar Council of India to consider plea seeking conducting of CLAT exam in local languages as a representation plea.
The order was given by a single bench comprising Justice Najmi Wasiri to BCI to consider the plea as a representation plea and take a decision and inform it to the petitioner within three weeks.
The petition was filed by Mr Pratham Kaushik seeking court’s direction to conduct the CLAT 2020 in local languages. The petitioner also requested the court to issue the same directions to the respondents regarding all the future CLAT exams.
While hearing the submissions of the parties, the court said that since it is BCI who sets the rules and regulations regarding the admission of students into law schools, so the council should consider this petition. The court also noted that
“However, looking at the fact that the forms for such examinations are to be deposited by 30.06.2020, it would be preferable that the Bar Council of India takes a decision prior to that, it such quick decision is feasible.”
CLAT is an all India entrance exam which is conducted every year by the National Law Universities on rotation basis. Every year almost 60,000 students fight for mere 1500 seats in elite law schools.
